After a season that saw them miss the postseason completely after making it all the way to Omaha the four years prior, expectations around the Big 12 are understandably lower for TCU this spring. That sentiment was reflected in this week’s release of the preseason All-Conference team, a lineup that features just one Horned Frog.
That player, though, is one of the more decorated on the TCU pitching staff, junior left-hander Nick Lodolo. After going 7-4 with a 4.32 ERA while posting 93 strikeouts in 77 innings, Lodolo is expected to be the Frogs’ ace in his third year. One of the most talented pitchers in the country, if not the conference, Nick is looking to post the kind of consistent effort that made him a top 50 draft pick out of high school, by the Pirates.
Texas Tech leads all teams with five selections, sweeping Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Freshman of the Year honors. Junior Josh Jung was voted as a first team member and player of the year. Baylor ace Cody Bradford is expected to be the league’s best pitcher in 2019, one of four Bears on the list. Texas and Oklahoma have two selections each, while WVU, Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Kansas State each had one representative.
Lodolo has received several preseason honors this month, including All-American honors by Baseball America and College Baseball Newspaper. Lodolo and senior outfielder Josh Watson finished last season as All Big 12 Second Team members.
All conference members open their 2019 campaigns on Friday, February 15th.
