TCU’s secondary will be short-handed for Saturday’s Baylor game.
Strong safety Innis Gaines is not expected to play and could miss extended time, coach Gary Patterson told those in attendance at a Frog Club luncheon Thursday.
Patterson hinted earlier in the week that sophomore La’Kendrick Van Zandt could see more reps at safety rather than linebacker Saturday. Freshman Nook Bradford is listed as Gaines’ backup at strong safety.

“I think he’s an amazing football player. I have the utmost respect for him. He plays on special teams. He’s an amazing punt returner. I watched the game just as a fan on TV the other day, he gets banged up, goes to the sideline and he’s right back out there.
“As a lover of college football, I love him and the way he plays. And he’s also unbelievably talented. He just seems like a great, great, great college football player.”
Rhule and his undefeated Bears will confront their nightmare again on Saturday when they visit Fort Worth. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Ex-TCU QB Trevone Boykin arrested for violating his bond, records show | WFAA
Boykin certainly made his mistakes, but it’s still a sad story.
Boykin, 26, was arrested Wednesday for the bond violation and is currently in the Tarrant County jail. As of Thursday night, a bond had either not been set or was withheld, according to records.
Boykin was arrested in Tarrant County in June on one charge of aggravated assault of a family member with a deadly weapon and one charge of tampering with a witness. Those charges stemmed from a March 2018 incident in which Boykin was charged with aggravated assault causing bodily injury after his girlfriend Shabrika Bailey accused him of beating her. Court documents obtained by WFAA show that Boykin cleaned up the crime scene, and police found evidence of blood in Boykin’s Mansfield home.

A shipment of cups displaying the Texas Christian University logo was delivered to a restaurant chain in Waco this week--rivalry week.
”My first reaction was: we’re not in Fort Worth, this is Bear Country, this is the home of Baylor University--what are these cups doing here in Waco?” said Jason Cook, Chief Marketing Officer for Baylor University.
This week, two McAlister’s Deli locations in Waco, the store on 6th St. and the store on W. Waco Dr., received the TCU cups instead of the “Sic ‘Em Bears” cups they’d ordered: the W. Waco Dr. location sold them to customers Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon.

Dennis was solid, especially In the second half, in last night’s opener.
Alongside returners Desmond Bane and Kevin Samuel, senior Edric Dennis jr. has emerged as a leader for head coach Jamie Dixon’s squad, though he has only been in Fort Worth for a few months.
“He brings a lot of intangibles to the table,” Dixon said. “[He has] the characteristics you want from a point guard: leadership, loud voice.”
TCU is Dennis Jr.’s fourth school in five years. He transferred to TCU from UT-Arlington in May. As a graduate transfer, he is eligible immediately for the Frogs.
On Thursday, Dennis Jr. will make get his first action at the Power 5 level.
“I think it means a lot,” Dixon said about Dennis’ first Power 5 start. “Here’s a guy who’s played himself up, to use that phrase, from lower levels, junior college, and is now playing in his local, Power 5 institution.”
