TCU Football cleans up All-Conference honors

Despite a disappointing season that saw the Horned Frogs finish 5-7 and outside the bowl picture, TCU Football still led the Big 12 with first team All-Conference selections and had 13 players recognized overall.

Additionally, redshirt freshman Ar’Darius Washington was named Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year after leading the team with five interceptions, which was tied for the most nationally by a freshman and is the most for a first year player in the Gary Patterson era at TCU. He was also third on the team with 46 tackles.

Four defensive players were named to the first team, including tackle Ross Blacklock, cornerback Jeff Gladney, safety Trevon Moehrig, and linebacker Garret Wallow were first-team selections. Additionally, kicker Jonathan Song, who finished the season 23-34 on field goals and 39-39 on extra points, was a first team selection. The 23 field goals tied for second-most in a season at TCU, matching Michael Reeder (1995) and Nick Browne (2002). Song was also Honorable-Mention Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year.

Despite few opportunities, junior wide receiver Jalen Reagor — who recently declared for the NFL Draft — was a second team selection, both for his stats as a pass catcher (43 receptions, 611 yards, five touchdowns) and as a kick/punt returner, where he led the conference with 312 punt return yards and two scores. Pro Wells, after a breakout year, was also a second-team pick. He had five touchdowns on just 17 receptions.

Honorable-mention selections were running back Darius Anderson, wide receiver Taye Barber, defensive tackle Corey Bethley and offensive guard Cordel Iwuagwu.

Washington is the third Horned Frog in the last eight years to be named Defensive Freshman of the Year, joining Ross Blacklock (2017) and Devonte Fields (2012).

Blacklock was also Honorable-Mention Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year. He tied for the team lead with 3.5 sacks while tying for second with 9.0 tackles for loss. His 40 stops placed fifth on TCU.

Gladney had a team-best 14 pass breakups. His 15 passes defended tied Moehrig for second in the Big 12.

Moehrig was second on TCU with 62 tackles while adding four interceptions and tying for the team lead with two forced fumbles.

Wallow’s 125 tackles, which include 18 for a loss with 3.5 sacks, lead the Big 12 and tie for seventh nationally. The 125 stops rank fourth in a season under Patterson. Wallow was also Honorable-Mention Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Quarterback Max Duggan was recognized with Honorable-Mention Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors. He passed for 2,077 yards and 15 touchdowns while placing second on TCU in rushing with 555 yards and six touchdowns.

TCU’s five first-team members were the most in the Big 12 Conference.
