NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-First Round- Marquette vs Murray State
Ja Morant & his Racers made one entrant very happy
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

The 2019 NCAA Tournament got rolling on Thursday and the Madness was minimal. There were a few scares -Bradley was leading MSU deep into the 2nd half; NMSU botched a few late chances against 5-seed Auburn; Belmont was up 7 with under 7 minutes to play against Maryland - but ultimately the only noteworthy seed-line upset was Ja Morant’s Murray State racing past hobbled 5-seed Marquette. This game did give us our only head-to-head elimination game from the entrants, as one brave soul had faith in the 12-seed Racers and another unfortunate participant was cut down by riding with the Golden Eagles. At the close of the Tournament’s first day, we still have 89% of the field alive.

3-Seed Tigers and Boilermakers were the most popular choices on Thursday

As the slate of Friday games get underway, it is another 3-seed getting the love. The Houston Cougars were selected on over a quarter of the entries and would greatly reduce our field with a loss tonight against 14-seed Georgia St. There was also great support for teams in the East Regional, with Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, UCF, and Duke making up another quarter+ of the entries. Friday also gives us a couple of direct elimination contests, so the field will be shrinking even if the bracket goes mostly chalk again: Dean Wade-less K-State taking on the 13-seed UCI Anteaters and 5-seed Wisconsin going against surging Oregon.

3-seed Cougars were the most popular Friday pick
