The first preseason poll of the college football season is out...

... but the Frogs aren’t in it. Receiving votes is good, though, right?

The Amway/USA Today/Fajita Bowl/Nachos Coaches Poll is out, marking the begin of silly preseason poll season - but also a reminder that it is August which means FOOTBALL IS BACK.

Of all the silly preseason polls, none is more pointless than the coaches poll, as most NCAA Football coaches have far more to worry about this time of year than whether Texas is actually back or if Michigan will actually win something of consequence this fall.

As such, it’s no surprise that the first poll of the season comes with a lot of familiar names and few non-traditional powers. It’s also not all that surprising that TCU finds itself in the “receiving votes” category as opposed to the Frogs finding their way into the Top 25.

Oklahoma, who has made the playoffs the past two seasons is the Big 12’s highest ranked team at four, despite replacing a generational talent once again at quarterback. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the guy replacing him has a national title. The Longhorns appear at ten, one spot ahead of the Aggies, which I am sure has not had any impact on message boards anywhere. The only other Big 12 member to find themselves in the top 25 is Iowa State, as the Cyclones clock in at 24.

There’s few surprises at the top, as Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia fill the first three spots, with Ohio State rounding out the top five. The only Group of Five school listed is UCF at 17.

To show you how little the coaches care about this poll, West Virginia more received votes (24), despite being picked to finish in the bottom four of the Big 12 in that preseason poll, than Baylor (4), who many consider to be a dark horse contender in the conference. Oklahoma State also got a little love in the receiving votes category.

Like we said, it’s not surprising that the Horned Frogs didn’t make the cut at this point, but it doesn’t make it right. It seems like a good time to remind you that we are part of a poll this season that actually accounts for the thoughts of the people that watch the games - the FANS - and you still have a chance to be a part and cast your vote weekly.
