Basketball:
Cyclones lose close one despite Wise’s return and Joens’ 31 points | Iowa State Daily
Another huge win for the Horned Frogs on the road. It’s time to jump on Pebley’s bandwagon, folks
A large part of the TCU offense came from behind the three-point line, as they shot 10 for 22. Lauren Heard led the Horned Frogs with 25 points.
Iowa State freshman guard Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw drives to the hoop against Iowa’s Tomi Taiwo on Dec. 11.
But TCU was able to fluster Iowa State, forcing 18 turnovers. Iowa State’s turnover margin ranks last in the Big 12 at -2.93.
Football:
‘He’s just a ball coach.’ TCU’s Patterson set to hire longtime friend Jerry Kill | The Star-Telegram
GP has always been about having his kind of people of staff.
Patterson raved about Kill during a speech at the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) earlier this week, as Patterson became president of the association. He remembered talking with a search committee about head coaching candidates and told them to talk with Kill after all the “podium candidates.”
In other words, candidates that would be considered “splash” hires.
“I told them, ‘When you get done doing the podium guys, I want you to go to Northern Illinois and I want you to talk to a guy by the name of Jerry Kill,’” Patterson told the crowd. “He’s just a ball coach. He’ll roll his sleeves up, people in the community are going to like him, he’s going to get his kids to love him.”
I have a feeling neither of these guys go later than the 5th round by the time it’s all said and done.
Sewo Olonilua, senior RB
Olonilua has an interesting skill set — he was TCU’s power back, but he also has a great set of pass-catching hands. That combination could be enough to earn him a spot in the last round. He’s also a physical specimen, earning a spot on the Bruce Feldman “Freak” list for his power in the weight room.
Expected range: Round 7
Cordel Iwuagwu, senior OT
If Iwuagwu is drafted, it’ll be due to a strong appearance in the East-West Shrine Bowl. He’s currently projected by some experts to be an undrafted free agent, but a strong Shrine Bowl appearance and a good combine could push him into the last round, where he can fight for a roster spot in camp.
Expected range: Round 7
