Charles King bounced back from a tough outing against Minnesota to look strong on Saturday, and Tommy Sacco drove in two runs as TCU beat Cal 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Horned Frogs moved to 9-1 on the young season, clinching the weekend series against Cal. TCU will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
King went seven strong innings, allowing just five hits and striking out three. It was a fantastic rebound game for the senior, after not making it out of the fifth inning a week ago while allowing seven runs. On Saturday he struck out three and allowed just one walk, blanking Cal and sending them to a 3-7 record on the season.
The Frog bats didn’t need to do much on the day thanks to King, but they still managed enough. Sacco drove in Gene Wood and Hunter Wolfe with a two-out single in the second inning.
That was the only scoring for either team until the fifth inning, when Sam Thompson drove Sacco in with a rocket of a triple to right field, securing our final score of 3-0.
Austin Krob, Drew Hill, and Haylen Green all contributed to the shutout for the Frogs as well. The three relievers have been stellar out of the bullpen through ten games, pitching a combined 24.2 innings and allowing just one run.
TCU will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon, hopefully in front of just as good a crowd as has turned out for the first two games.
