Big 12 Basketball Tournaments canceled amid COVID-19 outbreak

The games will not be made up.

The Big 12 has followed the lead of several other conferences this morning and canceled the remainder of their conference tournament.

To clarify the above tweet, both the men and women’s tournaments have been canceled. The Big Ten, SEC, and other G5 conferences like the AAC have also canceled their tournaments.

Also to clarify the above tweet (which meant AAC, not ACC), the ACC is planning on continuing their tournament as scheduled, minus the fans.

It’s all understandable, especially on the heels of the NBA suspending their regular season after Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday evening.

The question now is: what happens to the NCAA Tournament? What about the NHL, MLB, and NFL, which all have either regular season games, preseason games, and other major events taking place now and in the coming months?

This is definitely one of the wildest 24 hours the sports world has ever seen, but beyond that, this is a signal that we should all be taking the spread of COVID-19 seriously.

Wash your hands, friends.
