Just two games? Give me Baylor and Texas.

TCU

Game 1: Baylor

Game 2: Texas Tech

TCU and Texas Tech have played each other off and on for nearly a century, sometimes as conference mates and sometimes not. They also play for a saddle, which is a major reason why I kept this game on the schedule for both teams.

Could TCU be a landing spot for Marcel Brooks? | 247 Sports

The former LSU linebacker would be the highest-rated defensive player to sign with TCU in the GP era. Please. Make. It. Happen.

The former five-star out of Flower Mound Marcus was one of the most heavily recruited players in the nation. According to the 247Sports composite, Brooks was ranked as the No. 32 overall player and No. 2 outside linebacker in the nation.

Midlands Region Recruiting Analyst Gabe Brooks had this to say about the standout linebacker when he was a 2019 recruit.

Tall, long, rangy athlete with outstanding frame. Good height and a huge wingspan. Bulking potential is very high given his frame. Dynamic athlete who shows outstanding playmaking ability on both sides of the ball. Dominant at times against strong competition in Texas’ largest classification. Has shown impact playmaking ability at outside linebacker, receiver, and even DB. Projects to outside linebacker with a very high ceiling as a pass-rusher. Outstanding top-end speed relative to projected position. Explodes off the edge and closes fast.

TCU commit Noah Bolticoff is a ‘Gary Patterson-type player,’ says former Frog Foltz | The Star-Telegram

You have to love a member of the GP coaching tree trying to identify the right type of TCU player.

Foltz joked that it took a little bit of time before TCU’s coaching staff became interested in Bolticoff. Eventually, though, TCU offensive line coach Jarrett Anderson made an offer.

“They knew of him, but wanted to see him get bigger and taller over time,” Foltz said. “I really didn’t know what their mindset was until coach Anderson texted me and said, ‘You think I’m an idiot for not recruiting your boy?’ I said, ‘He’s the real deal.’

“I gave him Noah’s number and the rest kind of went from there.”

Calling my shot: TCU depth chart at safety | Horned Frog Blitz

The depth behind Moehrig is awesome... but good luck getting Tre off the field.

Backup – Josh Foster

Foster is long and rangy and he reminds me of another former Frog; Chris Hackett. Foster isn’t the fastest player on the field but his ball skills more than makes up for any lack of speed. That’s not to say he’s slow, he’s just not as fast as Moehrig. Foster very well could be the starter for the 2021 season (granted if Moehrig bolts for the NFL).

Third string – Bud Clark

Clark was one of the more coveted safeties in the nation for the 2020 recruiting class. He has the ability to play cornerback or safety but I feel he will get his first shot at free safety. I feel he’s about two years away from making a big time contribution in the secondary, but he will be a good one.

Big 12 Football: Ranking all 10 quarterbacks | Longhorns Wire

Starting in eighth place seems right... but I bet he doesn’t finish there.

Max Duggan had a breakout performance last season as a freshman against the University of Texas. However his season had a lot of ups and downs, not surprising considering it was his freshman season. Down the stretch, when Duggan struggled so did the entire Horned Frogs football team. They lost four of their final five games. Duggan threw just four touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The now sophomore quarterback will look to raise his game and those around him as TCU tries to regain some magic. He will have a new running back in Zachary Evans who will look to lighten the load of the young qb. The dual threat will need to continue to utilize the running game to put pressure on defenses.
