Oh, how the fortunes seem to have changed.
Just a week after feeling overwhelmingly optimistic about the TCU Football season, the FOW staff is leaking confidence... and quickly.
Here are this week’s game predictions — be sure to chime in with your own in the comments!
Predictions: TCU Football vs Texas
Name | So, uh, how are you feeling about TCU Football right now? | Why did you answer the way that you did? | Who will have the better game Saturday, Bijan Robinson or Zach Evans? | SMU ran for over 300 yards Saturday. Texas averages almost 270 per game now. Texas will: | Max Duggan came under a lot of scrutiny Saturday, especially when it came to his accuracy on the deep ball. Where are you with the Frogs' QB1 right now? | What is your prediction for the final score and how do we get there? | Bonus Question: Which win over Texas is your favorite and do you have a favorite play from that game or the series as a whole? |

Christian T | Everything is awful and we should disband the program. | We are in the midst of a worrying decline. I’d feel better if we weren’t told for the past 4-5 years that 2021 was the year and to endure the struggle until then. Even if we beat UT, this program needs a long look in the mirror. | Bijan Robinson | Rush for more than 300 yards against TCU | Max is a good enough QB that we should win games. He was solid until the almost pick, when the entire game plan changed as GP/Meacham/Kill/whoever got spooked. He’s not even in my top 5 biggest problems on the team right now. | UT 48 TCU 34, revamped Texas offense under Thompson has its way on the ground and through the air, creating separation in the 4Q. Can we win this game? Sure. But on paper, it’s looking pretty dire given how much bigger/more athletic the UT offense is than the SMU one that owned us on Saturday. | 50-7 win in 2015 which was truly Kavontae Turpin’s breakout game. We also had a very satisfying forced fumble on former TCU decommit Daje Johnson in that game which was fun. |
Ryan Bunnell | At least it was a non-conference game. | A lot of our problems are simple fixes and it blows my mind that people have lost faith in one of the greatest coaches on the planet in Gary Patterson. Have faith in Gary, but seriously he needs to stop being so stubborn and make some serious adjustments. | Bijan Robinson | Rush for more than 200 yards against TCU | The second Matthew Downing or Chandler Morris give the Frogs the best chance to win football games is the exact second that Matthew Downing or Chandler Morris would enter the ballgame. Get it? Because they don't. Max Duggan is our guy, and as frustrating as his lack of development and improvement over the years has been - a lot of the blame falls on the coaching staff for not properly running an offensive scheme fit for him. Deep ball is something you can fix with reps, and overall (Besides the fumble vs SMU) Duggan's decision making have improved. As Mama said in the Water Boy: "Have faith in my Bobby" | 34-31. TCU Wins. Chaos, chaos, and more chaos. | The 48-10 win in 2014. I realize we blew them out by even more (50-7) the next year, but this was the most demoralizing loss for UT that I can remember and I loved every second of it. I was at this game in Austin, and seeing Texas fans turn red as a tomato filled with anger because they can't get a 1st down against little ol' TCU is my favorite past time. Best play from that game was Josh Carraway's pick six in the final minutes of the ballgame, it was just insult to injury at that point. |
Russ Hodges | Not happy, but not worried long term. | We've yet to see this defense at full strength. The pass rush has been lacking without Khari Coleman and our secondary has struggled without Noah Daniels. Corey Bethley's absense hurt our run defense as well. | Zach Evans | Run for less than 150 yards against TCU | TCU's offensive staff needs to design the offense to build on Duggan's strengths, which are running the football and hitting the short and intermediate routes. No more speed options and no more force-feeding the ball downfield. JD Spielman, Taye Barber and Derius Davis need more touches and Quentin Johnston can't just be a deep-ball receiver. | TCU 38, Texas 35 | Garret Wallow forcing the fumble that saved TCU in 2020 was one of the most clutch defensive plays I've seen in a college game. |
Melissa Triebwasser | At least it was a non-conference game. | I don't think the season is over, but what we saw Saturday doesn't give me much confidence going forward. Everything could change with wins over Texas and Texas Tech... but with the way TCU's defense is playing and the way UT runs the ball? Ugh. | Bijan Robinson | Bijan Robinson will rush for more than 150 yards individually | I think Max Duggan can win TCU games if he's put in a system that highlights his strengths while taking attention away from his weaknesses. Wake up, offensive staff. | Texas 42, TCU 31. Frogs can't stop the run, but should rack up plenty of yards themself. That being said, I feel a lot better about the Longhorn offense than the Frogs right now. | I really loved the 50-7 win, but that first victory was really special because it was when I really felt TCU had "arrived" in the Big 12. My favorite play? There was a catch that Josh Doctson made in Austin in 2014 over three defenders... I was at the game, it was a prayer thrown by Boykin, and Doc caught it like it was no big deal. |
Anthony North | At least it was a non-conference game. | There is plenty to worry about, short term & long term, but all of the season's goals (except perhaps a Playoff berth) are still achievable. Get back on track with a win over Texas and everything is right where it needs to be....but fall off with another loss headed into a night game in Lubbock and the future looks dark. | Bijan Robinson | Rush for more than 200 yards against TCU | Let Max Cook. Just give him the right recipes and keep the menu to straightforward meals. He has all the ingredients and utensils in the cupboard to succeed (except maybe an oven mitt or apron to protect him. Idk, I’m losing the metaphor). Looking forward to Chef Duggan’s specialty: Bevo Burgers. | TCU wins 34-31. Max scores the game winning TD running over some UT defender at the goal line. | Gosh, there are so many, how can I choose? I’ll go with 2015. About as much fun as you can have at a sporting event - perfect weather, packed stadium, and TCU operating at the peak of its powers. No mercy; so dominant that you make your opponent want to transfer at halftime. My favorite play from that one is the Doctson “Mossing” TD early in the first quarter, although the double pass trick play TD to Doctson to go up 30-0 in the first quarter is glorious. |
Deanna Rust | At least it was a non-conference game. | Trying to find the #brightside | Zach Evans | Rush for more than 200 yards against TCU | I still like Max, but I’m tired of hearing “He just gets so excited and he overthrows it.” If this is really the problem, it should be remedied by now. If not, then why isn’t it remedied by now? And if that’s not the problem, then what is?? There needs to be some soul-searching here. | TCU 48-UT 45. There. I’m being optimistic. Honestly, I think it’ll be. Bit of a shootout like we saw last week in the first half. But I think TCU will utilize Evans, Duggan, and the receivers to get the Frogs past the secondary and into field goal range a couple of times. It’ll be this that carries the Frogs. But the Defense has got to want it bad enough and step up. If not, Texas could take full advantage and run the score up 50+. | I don’t have a favorite play, but my Granddad is a Longhorn and I got to take him to a game back on October 3, 2015. We whooped Texas that day, and it was crazy hot, but it’s still my favorite TCU game. |
