The Frogs O’ War staff is back to share their thoughts on Saturday’s matchup in Lubbock.

This week, we talk rivalry trophies, roster construction, and which TCU team will show up for the first road game of the season.

TCU Football at Texas Tech

Name What is the biggest concern you have regarding TCU Football after the last two games? What's a silver lining for the Horned Frogs? Questions over Zach Evans' workload have been a hot topic of conversation -- how many touches a game do you think he should be getting and why? With eight conference games remaining, what is the biggest change you would make to TCU Football? Texas Tech is off to a 4-1 start. TCU is 2-2. Which roster would you rather have the rest of the season? Which Rivalry Trophy is cooler? The best defensive player on the field Saturday night will be: Who wins, what's the score, and how do they do it?

Christian Tjoa I feel like I’ve been watching the same game for 4 years now. I suppose my biggest fear is that nothing changes and we end up somewhere around 5-7. We are 20-19 over the last 4 years, and TCU seniors may well graduate with their only bowl game being the Cheez-It Bowl and no regular season with more than 6 wins. Zach Evans is the truth. The secondary looked much better against UT even after TJ Carter got screwed by the refs. 20 at minimum. Why have a 5 star running back if you won’t use him? To be fair to the coaching staff, he did ask out for a few plays, so how about we cut out the lead blocker plays on Max QB keepers and let our best player touch the rock instead? No in season changes could fix the biggest problems facing this team, so I’ll say start Jamoi Hodge next to Dee Winters at LB. We desperately need his speed and athleticism to fix the run game. TCU's The Iron Skillet (SMU vs TCU) Tre Tomlinson I’m down on the team, but I think we eek out a win this week. It’s hard to say for sure since we haven’t seen how the Frogs play on the road this year, but Tech is coming off a big win over WVU and might be due a letdown. Nothing would surprise me at this point. Give me Frogs 31-28.
Anthony North The clown show. Rashee Rice and Bijan Robinson clowned the Frogs on and off the field. GP’s press conferences have served as meme fodder. Not only is TCU losing, but becoming a laughingstock in the process. Or perhaps we’re all the clowns for having higher expectations. 1) Zach Evans is a monster. 2) despite Bijan breaking their will and the egregious targeting ejection, the defense was trending towards improvement - finally generating some pressure. All the touches. Wait wait. I’m worried what you heard was “give Evans a lot of touches.” What I said was “give Evans all the touches”…But seriously, Evans should be on the field for every high leverage situation Improved run-stopping. 2 weeks in a row, dynamic RBs have slashed through the TCU defense. Despite it all, in each game the Frogs needed just one stop to give the offense a chance to tie or win the game. Instead, the opponents were able to easily run for first downs and bleed out the clock. TCU's The Iron Skillet (SMU vs TCU) Dee Winters Tech wins 31-28. Duggan is dealing on the late drive to win the game, but conservative red zone play-calling and a questionable penalty force the FG attempt to go to overtime. It’s blocked, Frogs lose.
Garrett Podell Zach Evans not getting enough touches Max Duggan seems to be able to complete the two-minute drill a lot better 25-30 because he is the best player on the team. He makes plays that should be a loss of two turn into a gain of 20. You can't give this guy the ball enough. Give Zach Evans more touches. TCU's The Saddle Trophy (Texas Tech vs TCU) Tre Tomlinson TCU 27-Texas Tech 24. TCU needs a game-winning drive and a bomb to Quentin Johnston sets up Griffin Kell for the game-winning field goal.
Colin Post Lack of big plays. Only when Zach Evans breaks multiple tackles and breaks free do the Frogs generate big plays. We need Max to get protection and dial in some deep passes to get the offense rolling. The secondary was actually pretty good against Texas. Noah’s return should help that (if he stays available), and even CJ is looking better. 20-25. Feels sizable enough for him to sway the outcome of a game without wearing down on his body. Despite being maybe just as talented, I don’t think Zach has the ability to take 30 plus like Bijan. Give Q 15 targets a game. TCU OCs hate doing that, but Q has the physical gifts of Doctson, and I want to see him he can show out like his predecessor. TCU's The Iron Skillet (SMU vs TCU) Tre Tomlinson It’s not even close for that above question, but the way. Tomlinson is still a top 5 corner in the nation. TCU wins this won 35-21. Colombi can hit the deep ball. Hoping Max does too a few times on Saturday. Frogs get some momentum back.
Melissa I don't think this team knows who they are, and if they did, I am not sure they could execute that vision Maybe Zach Evans won't leave for the SEC after this season? A minimum of 20, and more in the 22-24 range. I don't want to use a kid who has a clear professional future up as a sophomore, but since when is 20+ carries a game too many for a collegiate running back? Unless he's legitimately pulling himself out and has asked to limit his touches, let the kid work. I want an offensive game plan that makes sense for the personnel we have. I almost want to see a West Coast style or something out of the pistol. TCU's The Saddle Trophy (Texas Tech vs TCU) Tre Tomlinson I am going to go ahead and call this a "MUST WIN GAME" for the Frogs. If they don't beat Tech Saturday night, I don't see a bowl game in our future. Maybe this is the week it starts to click? Hopefully? Give me TCU Football 33, Texas Tech 28. I think Zach goes for almost 200 on 22 touches and has a big touchdown reception as well. QJ will approach 100 yards receiving, and Max will play within himself. Also Tre Tomlinson has a huge interception to seal things late.
Ryan Bunnell Stubbornness from the coaching staff to make the necessary adjustments. We have Zach Evans. At least 20+ per game. Ideally around the 25 range with at least a fe receptions off half back screens. Give the ball to Zach Evans every single play. TCU's The Iron Skillet (SMU vs TCU) Dee Winters TCU wins 41-38 after some weird night-game magic in Lubbock.
Russ Hodges The run defense has been nonexistent. There are some injuries up front but TCU has to be better at stopping the run and making tackles. Bijan Robinson won't be the last talented back TCU faces this season. Dylan Horton stepped up with two sacks and has proven to be an asset to this defense. He'll be needed should Ochaun Mathis continue to struggle. 25 should be the average number of touches, including rushes and receptions. Give your best player the ball and let him make plays. Given TCU will only have Evans for this year and next year (assuming he goes to the NFL), he'll need to become the focal point of this offense. I don't think much can be changed. Max Duggan is clearly the QB1 and the team can only do so much with the current injuries. The talent is there, but the players have to rise up and show can overcome adversity. The sting of losing has seemingly faded from this bunch over the last few years. TCU's The Saddle Trophy (Texas Tech vs TCU) Tre Tomlinson TCU 31, Texas Tech 24. Frogs will make just enough plays in the passing game to seal this one on the road.
