The TCU volleyball team bounced back from a tough three-set loss against Houston last week, sweeping High Point University on Tuesday to win its final nonconference match of the 2023 season. The Horned Frogs (16-13, 8-9 Big 12) will conclude the regular season with a Big 12 matchup against BYU on Saturday. The NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Tournament field will then be revealed during a selection show on Sunday evening.
It was the Frogs-Giving Day match for TCU, which celebrated the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday with a clean 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 sweep over HPU on Tuesday. The Horned Frogs hit .310 during the match while holding HPU to a .115 hitting percentage. Melanie Parra led the TCU offense, recording 14 kills and 10 digs while hitting .367 to finish the match with a double-double. Audrey Nalls added 10 kills with a .308 hitting percentage, while freshman setter Lily Nicholson dished out 28 assists. Middle blocker Brianna Green compiled a team-high six total blocks to spearhead the charge on the front line for the TCU defense.
TCU completed the match without committing a single receiving error or ball handling error. HPU struggled on the back line, accumulating six receiving errors that led to easy points for the Horned Frogs. TCU outblocked HPU 13-9 and racked up 38 total assists. HPU entered Tuesday’s match as the Big South champions with a 14-0 conference record.
