TCU nailed down another commitment from a former San Diego State athlete on Friday, with linebacker Cooper McDonald announcing his commitment to the Horned Frogs in a social media post. It’s the sixth transfer portal addition for the TCU football team, which secured a commitment from San Diego State offensive lineman Cade Bennett earlier in the offseason. McDonald spent two seasons with the Aztecs, recording 78 total tackles and 3.5 sacks over that time frame. The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder from Haslet, Texas began his career at Washington, where he played two seasons and totaled 26 tackles over 2020 and 2021.
McDonald is the second defensive transfer brought in by the Horned Frogs, who will feature a different scheme under new defensive coordinator Andy Avalos, who takes over from Joe Gillespie. TCU also added former Notre Dame defensive lineman Nana Osafo-Mensah earlier this offseason. McDonald appeared in 22 games with the Aztecs, compiling 8.5 tackles for loss as well as four passes defensed and one fumble recovery. At Washington, McDonald recorded 28 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks over 15 appearances.
