With TCU making serious waves on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal, the Horned Frogs received even more good news on Sunday, with reports indicating that freshman linebacker Jonathan Bax will withdraw from the transfer portal and return to Fort Worth for the 2024 season. Bax entered the transfer portal on Dec. 5 and had posted offers from multiple schools including Louisiana Tech, Tulane and UTSA. The freshman linebacker drew significant buzz last offseason and appeared in 10 games during the 2023 season.

Bax was one of four recruits from the 2023 class that entered the transfer portal after the season, joining former four-star prospects Randon Fontenette (Vanderbilt) and Cordale Russell (Colorado) as well as former JUCO recruit Mason White (Oregon State). Bax is the only one of the four to return, however, and the freshman linebacker could see an uptick in playing time under new defensive coordinator Andy Avalos, who takes over from dismissed defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie. Bax’s return is a big boost for the Horned Frogs, who will return key linebackers such as Johnny Hodges and Shadrach Banks next season.
