The Frog emojis are multiplying across social media, Sonny Dykes’ not-so-subtle smoke signal to indicate another new commitment had been secured. TCU Football and new Defensive Coordinator Andy Avalos earned its first defensive back transfer portal addition of 2024 as Cal Poly DB Donovan Saunders announced his commitment to the Horned Frogs on Monday afternoon.
Listed at 6’ 3”, 185 lbs, Saunders played in 10 games for the Mustangs in 2023, with 17 tackles, 11 pass break-ups and 3 interceptions. He was Cal Poly’s top rated player in coverage, with a top-20 reception-allowed percentage nationally at the FCS level, giving up a catch on fewer than 38% of targets, per PFF. Moving up from the FCS level, Saunders became a highly sought-after prospect, receiving offers from across the power 4, including defensive powers like Washington, Utah, and Illinois. As a high school prospect, Saunders was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022. He is the tenth player to commit to the Horned Frogs for the transfer Class of 2024, joining UNT OL Howard Sampson to announce the commitment on Monday.
