TCU Volleyball was one of the last teams to earn a spot in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, placed squarely on the Bubble, ultimately earning a spot into the Dance in the Fayetteville, Arkansas Regional. TCU would be matched in the First Round with 6-seed Florida State. The Frogs and Seminoles faced off in Fort Worth back in September with TCU taking the match 3-1. FSU would go on to an impressive 23-9 overall record including 16-2 in ACC play and ranked No. 22 nationally to end the season.

Friday’s match in Fayetteville played out in similar fashion to the September showdown, as the Horned Frogs once again bested Florida State 3-1.

The opening set was an elite battle that demonstrated the Horned Frogs perseverance. TCU trailed throughout the set, falling behind by as many as five points late in the frame, but battled back and fought off an FSU set point to eventually take the opening set 26-24. TCU took advantage of five Seminole service errors while getting 14 kills, 3 aces, and a pair of blocks to bring home the set.

Florida Stare handled the second set with ease, leading wire to wire as TCU gave away 8 attack errors for a 25-16 FSU set win to even the match up at a set apiece. But the Horned Frogs would bounce right back with big energy in the third set. The Frogs got out to a lead and Melanie Parra began to dominate the attack as TCU took 12 kills, 3 aces, and 3 blocks in the frame to retake the lead in the match

After trading lopsided efforts in the previous two sets, the 4th set would be a back-and-forth battle, with five lead changes and ten ties before TCU came away with the final three points with the match-winning kill from Parra to give TCU the 26-24 set victory. The win puts the Horned Frogs into the NCAA Tournament in consecutive seasons. Parra finished with 23 total kills while Jalyn Gibson (17) and Audrey Nalls (13) also reached double digit kills. TCU Setter Lily Nicholson dominated the assist leaderboard, with 46 for the match, 22 more than the next best.

TCU will face the Regional host, 3-seed No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks who advanced with a 3-0 sweep of Stephen F. Austin. The Second round match is scheduled for Saturday December 2 at 7:00 PM on ESPN+
