The three star talent out of H Town inked on National Signing Day after committing to the Frogs on Monday. Simpson chose TCU over 14 other offers, over Arizona State, Texas Tech, Arkansas, and his hometown Cougars. He took an official visit to Texas A&M just three days before verballing to the Frogs.

At 6’0” and 225 pounds, Simpson has good size for his position in the 4-2-5, and has a chance to make an impact sooner rather than later as the Frogs lose quite a bit of production at the linebacker position with the graduation of Travin Howard and Sammy Douglas. The opportunity to play early, as well as learn from one of the great defensive minds and talent developers in college football was a big factor in his choice, as was the ‘fit’ with TCU in general, as he told 247’s Jeremy Clark.

“They had everything I was looking for. I felt like I fit in socially, athletically and mentally,” Simpson said of his decision.

The #26 rated ILB in the country, Simpson is a big hitter with great instincts and a nose for the ball. He’s a playmaker in the middle of the defense and has a chance to be special for the Frogs. Put him alongside Ben Wilson and it’s the makings of a dynamic duo.

The longtime LSU commit flipped to the Frogs just a night before NSD, and now it’s official.

Another playmaker in the defensive backfield has officially signed to play for Gary Patterson’s defense today, as three star safety - and longtime LSU Tiger commit - ArDarius Washington made things official today.

Just hours after news broke that he would be turning down Ed Orgeron and the Tigers, Washington signed on the dotted line at a ceremony at his high school, Evangel Christian in Shreveport, LA. ArDarius, who counts TCU early-enrollee QB Justin Rogers among his good friends - verballed to LSU a year ago, but kept his options open when he chose not to ink during the early signing period in December. That gave GP and co time to get him on campus, and after taking an official visit to Fort Worth in January, it was clear the Horned Frogs had reason for hope.

Washington isn’t a big guy - just 5’8” and 175 pounds - but boy is he electric. With the ball in his hands, he reminds people of another Louisiana dynamo that calls Fort Worth home - junior WR KaVontae Turpin. He closes exceptionally well, hits like someone much bigger, and if he manages to get the ball in his hands, he’s a home run threat. Washington could see time in the slot and return game for GP and the Frogs.

A great nugget about Washington from his high school days, is that he is one of the few players to have picked off current TCU freshman Justin Rogers in a high school game. Against Rogers’ Parkway team in 2016, Washington cut in front of receiver Terrace Marshall in the end zone, pulling off the interception in one on one coverage.

According to former Shreveport Times reporter Luke Thompson, who covered ArDarius through his junior season, “he can cover just about anyone. ArDarius stood out as a leader of the secondary on a state championship defense loaded Division I talent, thanks to terrific athleticism and a nose for the football. If needed, he could have also been the team’s top receiver.”

ArDarius is a great fit in the 4-2-5 and is sure to become a fan favorite. He is the third safety and fifth player out of Louisiana to sign with TCU, joining the highest rated class the Frogs have signed since GP took over.

The three star receiver sticks with his pledge, inking with the Frogs on NSD.

After giving Frog Fans a bit of a scare in December, three star cornerback/receiver Derius Davis out of West Feliciana High School in Saint Francisville, LA made it official on National Signing Day, inking with TCU.

Davis, who chose to bypass the early signing period to participate in a ceremony with his classmates at his high school, has been committed to the Frogs since July 28th. Holding 12 offers, including from Army, Kansas State, and Tennessee, Davis stuck firm to his pledge despite a hard push from the Volunteers late in the game.

Standing 5’9” and weighing in at 160 pounds, Davis isn’t a huge guy at corner, something that the Frogs have put a premium on finding. But his like of premier height shouldn’t deter fans from getting excited about this new Frog, as he is fast, relentless, and unafraid of laying the big hit. Davis is also a winner - his West Feliciana team was state champions during his senior season, where he starred on both sides of the ball. Davis is lightning fast - he runs a sub-.4.4 40, and could also run track while in Fort Worth.

Washington, who had been pledged to the Tigers for nearly a year, was pursued hard by Gary Patterson and TCU, who see a ton of promise in the small (5’8”, 175) but dynamic three star athlete out of Evangel Christian in Shreveport, LA. When he decided against inking during December’s early signing period, it left hope for the Horned Frogs, who got Washington to campus in January and apparently made a big impression.

Washington held just three offers - LSU, TCU, and UTSA - but that might be due to his early pledge to the Tigers as much as anything. A hard-hitting speedster, Washington can play a myriad of positions in the defensive backfield as well as be an impact player in the return game - where he reminds some of KaVontae Turpin. A top 30 player in Louisiana, Washington is the 22nd pledge for TCU in the class of 2018, and the third safety. He joins QB Justin Rogers, ATH John Stephens, S Hidari Ceaser, and CB Derius Davis (expected to sign Wednesday) as Boys from the Boot in the Frogs’ highly rated signing class.

Don’t let his size fool you - Washington is an impact player. He has incredible closing speed, great hands, and isn’t afraid to lay the wood. Check out his senior season highlights:

With 17 signatures to fill the bulk of the class, there are still a handful of spots left in TCU’s Top 20 class.

TCU signed 17 of their 19 commits on Wednesday, kicking off the early signing period with a bang. Of course, it’s less of an “early” signing period than just the new national signing period at this point, as most schools signed the majority, if not all, of their commits on Wednesday.

With somewhere around 7-9 spots left to fill (early enrollees like Justin Rogers and Bryson Jackson technically count towards the 2017 class), the Frogs still have a lot they can do with those remaining spots.

Here’s a look at what we need to know about the two remaining unsigned commits.

Justin Rogers | 4-star QB | 6-4, 210 | Bossier City, LA

Class Rankings: No. 34 overall | No. 2 dual-threat QB | No. 2 in LA

Rogers, the No. 2 dual-threat QB in this class and No. 34 player overall, is signing with TCU on Friday, December 22nd, the last day of the early signing period. He’s been solid to TCU since committing over the summer, and late overtures from LSU and Texas A&M weren’t nearly enough to pull him away.

Derius Davis | 3-star CB | Saint Francisville, LA

Class Rankings: No. 86 CB | No. 43 in LA

Davis has a big signing event on the docket for the traditional signing period, which is one of the reasons he won’t sign with TCU during the early period. He remains solid to the Frogs, and he may even help reel in another name or two before it’s all said and done.

—--------------------------

Beyond Rogers and Davis, TCU will look to close out their class with some more big names. Keep an eye on these guys as we move towards February.

JaMarr Chase | 4-star WR | 6-1, 195 | Metairie, LA

Class Rankings: No. 74 overall | No. 15 WR | No. 4 in LA

We know the story by now: Chase was ready to commit to TCU during the Elite 11 competitions over the summer, but a snafu by the NFL Network meant he wasn’t going to be able to commit how/when he wanted to. He backed off, reconsidered things, and committed to Florida a few weeks later.

Now, though, Chase is back on the market, and he spent an official visit at TCU just last weekend. I really like TCU’s chances here. Michigan and LSU are two other schools to keep an eye on.

Keondre Coburn | 4-star DT | 6-1, 295 | Houston, TX

Class Rankings: No. 115 overall | No. 8 DT | No. 13 in TX

Coburn is currently committed to Texas, but he didn’t sign with the Longhorns early as was originally expected. TCU has been in his ear as of late, and while he didn’t make it for an official visit last weekend, he may still get on campus in January.

Coburn would be the lone DT in the 2018 class for TCU, should he flip, and he could be a day-1 impact player playing alongside Ross Blacklock and Corey Bethley.

Jashaun Corbin | 4-star RB | 6-0, 191 | Southwest Brevard County, FL

Class Rankings: No. 247 overall | No. 6 APB | No. 46 in FL

Corbin was also on campus for an official visit last weekend, and according to his Twitter, he had an absolute blast. He would be a massive addition to the class, as TCU has one big back in the fold (Fabian Franklin) but could use another.

Texas A&M is another team to watch here. Corbin was committed to Florida State most recently, before Jimbo Fisher left for the Aggies. Now, Corbin holds an offer from Texas A&M as well. It could very well be a two horse race at this point, but there’s time for other schools to enter, or reenter, the mix for his signature.

Aaron Brule | 3-star S | 6-1, 205 | Metaire, LA

Class Rankings: No. 408 overall | No. 30 S | No. 14 in LA

A teammate of JaMarr Chase, Brule is another recruit who could have been considered a TCU lean over the summer. When Chase slowed down, he did, and when Chase committed to Florida, Brule committed to Georgia.

He’s still committed to Georgia, and was planning on signing early with them just a few weeks ago. But it seems he’s having second thoughts, and TCU is a part of those thoughts. Brule was another guy who OV’d to TCU over the weekend, and he appeared to have a good time.

ArDarius Washington | 3-star S | 5-8, 175 | Shreveport, LA

Class Rankings: No. 629 overall | No. 43 S | No. 24 in LA

Washington is an LSU commit, but he hasn’t signed yet, and he’s had an interest in TCU for some time now. Don’t let his size fool you, this kid is an athletic beast. It’s clear TCU wants at least one, probably two more defensive backs in this class, and flipping Washington would be a big win.

Eddie Smith | 3-star CB | 6-1, 181 | Slidell, LA

Class Rankings: No. 736 overall | No. 66 CB | No. 31 in LA

The one-time TCU commit is still considering the Frogs, but Tennessee and Missouri have also entered the picture for his services. He’s a big, rangy corner, breaking the mold of who TCU usually goes after to play that position, but he’d be great on an island in Patterson’s 4-2-5.

He’s taking an official visit to Tennessee in January, after which he’ll probably make his final decision.

Derek Turner | 3-star S | 5-11, 190 | Saint Francisville, LA

Class Rankings: No. 86 S | No. 47 in LA

Turner is a teammate and brother of TCU commit Derius Davis, and he’s solid in coverage and against the run. Obviously with Davis in the fold it would appear that TCU is the frontrunner for Turner, and his 247 Crystal Ball page reflects that as well. Auburn is the other school in play for Turner, so the question is: would playing in the SEC outweigh playing with his brother for the Frogs?

The 6’2” DB is the #4 rated cornerback in the state of Texas.

The Frogs knew they needed to get bigger in the defensive backfield, and with the signing of Trevon Moehrig-Woodard today, they did just that.

The 6’2” defensive back hails from Smithson Valley High School in Spring Branch, Texas, where he had seven career interceptions - returning two for scores - as well as starring in the return game (eight total touchdowns across two seasons).

His size is a huge advantage defensively, but it’s his speed that makes him such a versatile weapon overall. Once the ball is in his hands - as a returner, a running back, a receiver, or on a pick - he’s incredibly hard to catch and tougher to bring down. He also packs a big wallop in coverage, and lays the lumber in a way reminiscent of Derrick Kindred.

Rated as high as a four-star recruit, Trevon Moehrig-Woodard is ranked as the No. 4 cornerback in Texas and No. 19 in the country. He is the No. 23 overall player in Texas and No. 193 nationally, and chose the Frogs over 18 other offers, including Georgia, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Baylor, and Texas A&M.
