The 2014 TCU baseball season comes to a close as the Frogs tired arms couldn't keep up with a hot hitting Ole Miss team.

It should have been expected when Tyler Alexander couldn't get out of the fourth inning, given the extra innings game against Virginia had drained out bullpen, but it still was a surprise to me when TCU didn't end up coming back to win this game. Throughout the season there's almost always been something that has gotten TCU over the hump. TCU's lineup has been inconsistent at producing offense all year, but on the rare occasions the pitching has struggled in the second half of the season they've generally been there to hold up their end of the bargain and keep the Frogs alive. Even as the Frogs rallied back to tie the game thanks to a walk filled fourth inning, and Cron tied it back at four when the Rebs picked up a run in the fifth, it felt like the Frogs were in a tight spot though- Ole Miss was getting more men on base and they hadn't spent their bullpen in a slugfest against UVA just before, and the Rebels have had a more consistent offense than TCU all year. If the Frogs were going to win it was going to take a little bit more of that something special to get them over the hump and earn another chance against the Cavs, and it just didn't turn up today.

And as much as that sucks, you know what? That's okay.

Out of seemingly nowhere, we had a hell of a season and a hell of a postseason. We hosted a regional and then a super regional for the first time, advanced to the CWS for the second time and even got to play a part in knocking Tech out. As disappointing as the ending of this story is, coming out of the 2013 season this one was a revelation, and will hopefully be a launching point for TCU's football and basketball teams to have redemptive seasons as well. It's a good time to be a horned frog, gentlemen. Marshall and Jamie will be around later to give the blow by blow and possibly an outlook for next year, but for right now, kudos to Ole Miss for a great game and thanks to the Frog baseball team for a wonderful year.

The Horned Frogs hope to continue their hot streak and clinch their first Big 12 Championship in a major sport

It's championship time! The one sports program that no one doubted would have issues with adjusting to the Big 12 has indeed thrived in its second season, finished the regular season just a game back of first place Oklahoma State and is still in the discussion for becoming a national seed. That's all great news, but more importantly today is the day where TCU finally gets an opportunity to win its first conference championship in a major sport since the jump to the Big 12, and the Frogs come into the game red hot. On the other side of the diamond are the OSU Cowboys, the regular season champs who ran through five pitchers on Friday in a slugfest against OU and won two in a row against the Texas Longhorns to match up against the undefeated-in-the-tournament Frogs. A national seed could be in the offing if the Frogs bring home the hardware, but right now I'm more concerned about getting something into the Big 12 trophy case. Gentlemen, this could be a very big day.

This is your gamethread to follow along, the game will be televised on Fox Sports 1 and begins at 4:30 CST.

After a solid Friday, Tech takes series from the Frogs.

After a strong performance Friday, it looked as if TCU finally found the rhythm most were expecting to see this season. But after getting outscored Saturday and Sunday 22-4, it's looking a lot like last year's disappointing campaign.

Weekend In Review

The Good

Brandon Finnegan once again proved why he's one of the best pitchers in college baseball right now as he had another masterpiece Friday night. Finnegan finished Friday with 10 strikeouts, and gave up only three hits and two walks.

Maybe it's Finnegan's spark on the rubber, maybe it's playing under the lights, maybe the crowd's more into it, but TCU just looks better at the plate on Friday nights. TCU really got things rolling in the fifth inning, putting up a seven spot thanks to some solid work from Derek Odell, Keaton Jones, and the always effective Boomer White.

The Bad

I agreed with what Fungo said about this being the best coaching staff we've ever put out, and probably still agree for the most part, but the Frogs are once again showing they can't hit consistently. They showed signs of this early in the season, but they got away with it because they played teams like Jacksonville State. TCU's offensive flaws are becoming more apparent as they've seen better talent. Saturday and Sunday proved this.

Even with Morrison having an off day, you're not going to win many games only getting six hits. Tech got six in two-innings off Morrison. Equally disturbing, were the number of runners TCU's left on base Saturday.

Sunday was more of the same. Tyler Alexander was solid through four, but Tech broke it wide open in the fifth, scoring four. The Red Raiders put some salt on the wound in the sixth, adding five more runs to their lead, which made it 9-1 going into the seventh. The bats were more effective Sunday afternoon, as the Frogs collected 8 hits, but still failed to produce many runs. Once again, runners left on base was TCU's Achilles' heal; most notably in the 8th inning when TCU produced a nice two-out rally, but failed to come up with anything as they left the bases loaded.

Weekend MVP: Brandon Finnegan

Who says pitchers can't be MVPs? With 10 Strikeouts Friday night, Finny now has double-digit strikeouts in five of his six starts.

Weekend Cy Young: See above.

Because We Can: Keaton Jones

Jones is one of the best natural fielders I've seen, so to see him make some noise at the plate and on the basepath was really exciting. If Jones put on a little more muscle, he'd bring up more Chase Utley comparisons and would be a really intriguing draft pick. It's also no coincidence that Keaton wears "26" on his back just like Utley.

C'Mon Man: Preston Morrison

The inaugural "C'mon man" goes to one of my favorites, Preston Morrison. It pains me to do, but it only makes the future winners easier. Morrison, who was named a Pre-Season All-American, is now 2-4 and with a struggling offense, TCU needs the brilliant Morrison we've seen in the past more than ever. But allowing four runs, six hits, and two walks in two innings? C'mon man.

Fungo Frog says goodbye to Frogs O' War once and for all.

In November Jamie took over, and I stepped aside.

Today, I regret to report the end is here.

I love college baseball. I love baseball. I love TCU, and college sports in general.

But I also love advertising, marketing, and all the great things that come with a bright, promising career. And my wife.

Not in that order.

And that is not to say that you can't write a sports blog and also have a career and a family, plenty of people do just that. But it's not for me.

Thanks to the KF guys for giving me a shot, to Ezra for being so accommodating and to Jamie for putting up with me.

To the countless scouts and writers who have reached out to share some baseball guidance, it meant the world.

And thanks to Coach Schloss for his friendship and help, as well as tons of players and parents over the years who have shared this journey with me, it's been tons of fun.

Frogs O' War is still the best place for TCU fans on the internet, I firmly believe that. I'll still hang around here and the other TCU websites, but it's time for real life to take center stage.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Go Frogs.
